National Workshop on Capacity Building of Urban Local Bodies

National Workshop on Capacity Building of Urban Local Bodies

It is not enough to think in terms of traditional infrastructure creation. That was a thing of the past. Instead, let us look to the future and focus on creating a holistic ecosystem for ensuring last-mile access to services; enhanced operational efficiencies; and integration of digital technology. To achieve these outcomes, we need to increase our individual, organizational and institutional capacities.” Said Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Govt of India.

Capacity Building Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs organized a National Workshop on Capacity Building of Urban Local Bodies (#ULBs) on 5th October 2023 at #BharatMandapam to cultivate a unified approach towards capacity building of all Urban Local Bodies across the country.

The workshop was a resounding success with an incredible turnout of over 280 participants from 100 ULBs, Training Institutes, State Urban Development Department and Multilateral Development Banks, and served dynamic platform for sharing innovative ideas, best practices, and strategies aimed at enhancing the capabilities of ULBs.

This workshop marked a significant milestone with the launch of three key initiatives by the Hon'ble Minister:
1. Annual Capacity Building Plan (#ACBP) for MoHUA: This plan will play a pivotal role in enhancing the capabilities of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
2. Annual Capacity Building Plans for 6 pilot ULBs: These include Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru, Rajkot, Nagpur, and Pune. The six pilot ULBs have also embarked on their #iGOT Karmayogi Journey, enrolling a total of 3,852 officials, who have collectively completed over 4,561 courses.
3. Comprehensive Toolkit for preparing the Capacity Building Plans for ULBs: Providing valuable resources to facilitate the growth and development of Urban Local Bodies across the country

A key highlight of the workshop were the 10 breakout groups which featured interactive real-life case studies for the groups. Participants were encouraged find a strategy to address the issue through consultations and discussions, come up with capacity building interventions and present the same in front of the esteemed guests.

This workshop represents a crucial step towards realizing the goals of #MissionKarmayogi and Prime Minister's vision of a #NayaBharat. It ensures that ULBs across the country are equipped to contribute effectively to national development and governance. The #MoHUA and the CBC remain committed to these objectives and look forward to further collaborative efforts.
