Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Member–HR, Capacity Building Commission, and Member of the Apex Committee for Higher Education of the State of Madhya Pradesh, participated in the Second Conference organised by the Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh on the theme “कर्मयोगी बने”.

The conference brought together Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, and senior academic leaders from Government and Private Universities across Madhya Pradesh and was graced by the Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav and Higher Education Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar.

Dr. Balasubramaniam delivered the keynote address and participated in the panel discussion. In his address on “Mission Karmayogi and Academic Capacity Building: Reimagining Faculty Roles for 21st-Century India,” he emphasised the urgent need to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to respond to rapid technological and socio-economic shifts. He highlighted that faculty roles must evolve from content delivery to mentoring, guiding, and preparing students for a rapidly changing ecosystem.

He underscored that teaching should become application-driven and task-oriented, with AI positioned as a bounded thinking assistant rather than a substitute for human judgement. The session called for robust digital infrastructure, flexible curricula embedding data literacy and ethical reasoning across disciplines, and assessment reforms focused on process documentation, oral defence, and supervised problem-solving.

The discussions reaffirmed that achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat requires not only economic growth, but also strong institutions, capacity building, and continuous learning.
