Villages in the CholaAdministration were known as Urs. Village administration was entrusted to the Gramsabha (village assembly) which was the lowest unit of Chola Administration. It took care of maintenance of roads, tanks, village ponds and village temples.
In Arthasastra, the Fort's construction talks about the administrative reforms made to protect the kingdom and its people's distribution of natural resources. The reforms helped in the management of water, soil, and forest resources.

To help citizens learn more about such facts from history, we are producing an interactive timeline where India’s rich administrative histories will be featured on our website (www.cbc.gov.in) in partnership with FLAME University. Today, we interacted with more than 900 Yuva volunteers to join this historic effort.
