As a part of the Good Governance Week, the Capacity Building Commission organized a thought-provoking talk by Dr. Onkar Sharma, Former Chief Labour Commissioner, Government of India on “Labour Codes towards Governance Reforms” reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Good Governance. Dr Alka Mittal, Member (Admin), CBC highlighted the importance of the topic of the Samuhik Charcha.
Shri S.P Roy, Secretary, CBC welcomed the speaker. Dr Sharma shared strategic perspectives on India’s labour reforms and the transition towards a more facilitative and responsive governance model. Drawing from his rich experience, he traced the origins of labour laws in the Indian traditional roots. He highlighted how the Labour Codes address contemporary labour challenges through simplification, transparency, and administrative coherence.
The discussion underscored the role of stakeholder consultations, institutional preparedness, and sustained capacity-building in effective implementation.
