Public Administration under Hoysala Empire

Between the 10th and 14th centuries, the Hoysala Empire was a Kannadiga empire from the Indian subcontinent that dominated most of what is now Karnataka, India. The Hoysala capital was first established in Belur but was later relocated to Halebidu.

The system of government was tyranny modified with expediency, a peculiar king of constitutional monarchy, based on the effect of previous times. The king would only proceed with his decisions after discussions with the people loyal to him. The king's duty was twofold - one was to restrain the evil, and the other was to protect the good. Criminal justice was administered by the king in person or the king's deputy-in-charge of a district. Fines were a regular part of the royal income and were assignable in the same way as the land revenue. Robbers were slaughtered without mercy.
