Indian Independence Act of 1947

 

It ended the British authority in India by declaring it an independent and sovereign state on august 15, 1947. The act provided for the partition of India into two sovereigns, India and Pakistan dominions. It ended British supremacy on the Indian princely states and tribal lands and were declared independent to join any of the two dominions or remain independent.The Government of India Act of 1935 was used to rule each of the dominions and provinces until the new Constitutions were drafted. However , dominions were given the authority to amend the Act.
