Why constituted?

  • The Committee was constituted over the broad resistance shown regarding the CSAT Paper-II, after which the Committee was to look into any necessary changes required in this regard.
  • The Baswan Committee was likely to look into the eligibility, syllabus, scheme, and pattern of the examination.

What constitutes the Baswan Committee?

  • It is a body of experts from different walks of life: academicians, technocrats, and senior bureaucrats.
  • B S Baswan, former Human Resource Secretary and retired IAS officer, chaired.

Reforms could be brought about in the following areas:

  • Examine the prestigious exam's effectiveness in selecting candidates, inclusiveness, and required skill set.
  • Look into any necessary changes required in Civil Services Prelims and Civil Services Mains that will be holistic and will not benefit anyone group of individuals.
  • Eligibility criteria of the candidates, regarding upper age limit and several attempts.
